News Extract: Call to scrap Tornagrain Report in the Press & Journal re local councillors objecting to Tornograin new town masterplanned by Miami-based architect Andres Duany claiming residents were 'firmly against' such a proposal and that the density of 10,000 people on less than a square mile was 'unbelievable in the Highlands' 1 Feb 2007 Tornagrain - New Urbanism Moray Estates plan to build a new community - called Castle Stuart - near Tornagrain in the Highlands. They have apparently taken on Mr Duany, principal of Duany Plater-Zyberk and Company - DPZ. Mr Duany was one of the founders of the Congress for New Urbanism (CNU) movement. He has influenced the building of Poundbury and has advised on the rebuilding of hurricane damage in Louisiana and Mississippi. About 5,000 houses are planned on a 350-acre site making this the largest Highlands community after Inverness, with slightly more residents than Fort William. Echoing Prince Charles' Poundbury principals the community would be based on 18th-century planned Scottish towns, such as Dunkeld and Grantown-on-Spey May 2006 Andres Duany - Castle Stuart architect Miami-based architect Andres Duany New York-born but raised in Cuba Andres Duany's great-grandfather was from Edinburgh News Update re Tornagrain Analytical programme was screened on Scottish TV 060906 with Mr Duany interviewed re proposals and feedback 6 Sep 2006 Scottish Housing: Isle of Gigha Housing Housing Association for Bute, Cowal, mid Argyll and Kintyre Scottish Architecture Modern Houses Scottish Architects of the past Scottish House Scottish Housing Scottish Country Houses Glasgow News : back to index Scottish New Urbanism : Glasgow event Highlands new town - Whiteness Head at Ardersier Comments / photos for this Castle Stuart - Tornagrain page welcome: info@glasgowarchitecture.co.uk Tornagrain Scotland - page: adrian welch / isabelle lomholt |
