Work Begins on New Phase of ‘The Village, Dalmarnock’ as Cruden Builds on Legacy of Commonwealth Games Athletes’ Village
Cruden has begun work on the next major phase of homes at The Village, Dalmarnock, building on the success of the award-winning Athletes’ Village that Cruden delivered for the 2014 Commonwealth Games as part of the City Legacy Consortium. The start of construction marks the next chapter in the transformation of this vibrant riverside community.
This new phase will deliver 67 high-quality two- and three-bedroom terraced homes, extending Cruden’s long-standing commitment to creating sustainable, well-designed neighbourhoods within Glasgow’s East End. The homes will range from 743 ft² to 1,023 ft², with the larger three-bedroom properties offering generous accommodation over three floors, including en-suite bathrooms.
The Village has become a blueprint for placemaking in the city, demonstrating how thoughtful design, energy-efficient homes and strong community infrastructure can transform an area and support long-term growth.
Cruden’s role in delivering the Athletes’ Village in 2014 helped spark one of Glasgow’s most successful regeneration stories. The neighbourhood, once a symbol of large-scale transformation for the Commonwealth Games, has since matured into a thriving, new community, attracting families, first-time buyers and long-term residents drawn to its quality housing, green spaces and excellent transport links.
Homes at The Village, Dalmarnock have been designed with sustainability and comfort in mind. High levels of insulation, modern construction methods and energy-saving features will help keep running costs down while contributing to Glasgow’s wider climate ambitions.
To support a greener neighbourhood, the development will incorporate solar panels and a mix of air source heat pumps and a renewable, low-carbon heating system. The first homes are due to be ready early next year, with a sales launch anticipated this Autumn.
Fraser Lynes, Chief Executive of Cruden Homes, said:
“Delivering the Athletes’ Village was a landmark moment for Cruden and the City Legacy consortium, and it has been hugely rewarding to see the neighbourhood flourish into one of Glasgow’s most vibrant new communities. This next phase at The Village, Dalmarnock builds on that legacy, bringing more high-quality, energy-efficient homes to an area that continues to go from strength to strength. We’re proud to play a continued role in shaping its future and look forward to welcoming new residents as the development progresses.”
