The hotel has a ‘designer’ theme throughout based on the famous Glasgow architect after whom the hotel is named. The hotel restaurant only serves breakfast and has a 24-hour bar.

Alexander Thomson – Glasgow buildings

The name of this Argyle Street hotel was inspired by the Great Glaswegian Architect Alexander Greek Thomson (1817 – 1875). He produced a diverse range of structures including villas, a castle, urbane terraces, commercial warehouses, tenements, and three extraordinary churches.

Of these, Caledonia Road Free Church (now a ruin), Queen’s Park United Presbyterian Church (destroyed in WWII), and St Vincent Street Church, the last is the only intact survivor. This church is located close by to this Argyle Street accommodation, a few blocks north and west.

The accommodation is contained within a historic Victorian era building. It has high ceilings and high windows from that era. Most rooms are quite large and so are the bathrooms.

The Great Western Terrace, now Alexander Thomson Hotel, was built in 1869.
