Renamed Sentinel Building
Wellesley House received planning permission 26 Nov. Despite recommendation of rejection reportedly from RFACS Glasgow Planners received reputedly the first ever letter of approval for a radically modern building from the Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland and Glasgow's Amenity Liason Group, which of course includes the Glasgow Institute of Architects. The project is on the site of the former Ministry of Defence building between Waterloo Street and Douglas Street and involves ten stories of offices.
GM+AD Architects' project will be up before the Planning Committee on 26 November, with a recommendation for approval. Demolition of the existing stone building will start before Christmas and be on site in March of 2003. The building will be completed 18 months later. Total contract cost is £11m.
Gordon Murray + Alan Dunlop Architects have now submitted Waterloo Street for Planning Approval and are expecting a twelve week decision process.
The clients Kenmore Wellesley House Ltd wish to start on site early in the New Year; total contract cost is £10.5m. The building is one of four put forward by GM+AD Architects and forms part of a commercial building masterplan strategy for Glasgow's business district.
