Virginia Court Glasgow: Merchant City, Glasgow Flats

Glasgow Merchant City, Scotland: Shops + Apartments

Virginia Court & Galleries - Merchant City, Glasgow

Credential Holdings unveils proposal to redevelop Virginia Court - a gated cobbled wynd, to create Virginia Court & Galleries, shopping and leisure venue:-

boutique shops
small department store
five luxury apartments
restaurants & cafes

The area dates back to the 1700s when many of the existing buildings housed the offices and auction rooms of the city's famous Tobacco Lords, hence the Virginia name. The location also features the original Stirling's Library.

Credential Holdings plan to link the shopping areas around Princes Square with Candleriggs / Merchant City. The ground and basement floors of Stirling's Library will provide retail accommodation of 6,000 sq ft, including the new-build rear mews building that links into the courtyard and features an atrium. The upper floors will provide five luxury residential apartments.

The Colonnade building on Miller Street forms the third element in this area's regeneration with ground and basement accommodation totaling 14,000 sq ft.

Planning has already been granted and work is scheduled to start in Jan 2007 with final completion due in summer 2008.

Credential Holdings were set up in 2003. Current projects include the regeneration of Hamiltonhill Industrial Estate at Port Dundas, Glasgow to create The Point retail and trading estate; the upgrade and modernisation of 35,000 sqft at Venlaw in Bath Street; the re-generation of Muirhouse Shopping Centre, Edinburgh, to form a ‘micro’ town centre.
