EDWINA PROUDFOOT
Speakers:
ALISON ROBERTSON, former chairman of the Church of Scotland
Committee on Artistic Matters, and IAIN GALBRAITH, organist at
Kelvinside Hillhead Parish Church, will present a perspective of Scottish
stained glass artists and their work, both old and new, within the national
context.
STEPHEN RICHARD is a well-known figure in art glass circles, with
many installations and exhibitions around Scotland over the past twenty
years. Based at the WASPS Studios, Stephen works on a wide range of
glass projects. He is active in the Scottish Glass Society and is currently
chairman of craftscotland, a Scottish Arts Council-supported web-based
information service.
RONA MOODY is a stained glass designer, maker and teacher and has
lectured at Chesterfield College of Art since 1999. She has also been
researching Scottish stained glass, particularly from the 20th century,
since her student days at Edinburgh University.
ROSEMARY BEATON is a painter and stained glass designer who has
exhibited widely from Shetland to the Netherlands since
graduating
with a First Class degree from Glasgow School of Art in 1985. She was
recently featured in the local press at the unveiling of the West
End
Window, an 11m high mosaic of stained glass on the corner of a
block
of modern flats off Byres Road.
ALEC GALLOWAY, who worked with Rosemary Beaton on the West
End Window, is a stained glass artist based in Skelmorlie, Ayrshire.
Starting as a glassblower before pursuing work as a graphic designer in
London, Alec worked in stained glass in Dubai for several years before
returning to Scotland in 2000. Alec also teaches in the MDes course at
the Edinburgh College of Art.
EDWINA PROUDFOOT is an archaeologist with interests in the Early
Bronze Age and the Early Christian/Pictish periods. She has taught
archaeological courses for Continuing Education throughout her career.
From 1975-95 at University of St Andrews ran a research centre and
developed the Sites & Monuments Record in Fife. Edwina is now
Chairman of Scottish Church Heritage Research which is developing a
database/website of Places of Worship in Scotland.
