Waterloo Street Car Park MCM Architects: Design Statement
The refurbishment of Waterloo Street Car Park in central Glasgow provides
the opportunity to enrich the existing urban grain of the city and to
reinforce the presence of an established corner site property.
Q-Parks philosophy of robust, legible, secure and of a user friendly
environment has been implemented to provide an attractive and inviting
facility - safe and easy to use and understand.

The external fabric of the building is designed to complement and reinforce
the overall identity of the local area as a mix of exciting bold statements
and landmarks. Clad in 12km of Siberian Larch louvred cladding the fabric
facilitates a naturally ventilated environment and provides a secure transparency
changing from night and day through the interior lighting. The warmth
and natural feeling of the cladding is contrasted dramatically with the
steel panel clad helix which is clearly identified as its
separate use as vertical circulation.
Overall the building responds to context in a bold and visually exciting
manner and betrays its functional use a safe, secure and efficient city
centre car park.
