Designed by Mackintosh for the School Board of Glasgow, Scotland Street School features symmetrical glazed stair towers, similar to the Modernist Werkbund & Fagus Shoe Factory by Gropius in Germany but with typical Mackintosh close-centred grids of black leaded glass.

The School closed in 1979 due to insufficient pupil numbers but was refurbished when Glasgow became European capital of Culture in 1990. Since then it has become the Glasgow Museum of Education, featuring an audio visual theatre, period classrooms and exhibition space.
