Ravenscraig Start Dec 07 News Update: Work starts on five-storey £44m Motherwell College campus at Ravenscraig - the first major development on the former steelworks site Ravenscraig New £29m sports facility at former Ravenscraig steelworks by HOK Sport received £7m funding from sportscotland: ![]() Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility The project by North Lanarkshire Council and Ravenscraig Ltd's features a full-size indoor synthetic football pitch, six-lane athletics track, nine-court indoor sports hall, full-size floodlit outdoor synthetic grass pitch, six floodlit synthetic five-a-side outdoor pitches, gym, two dance studios & indoor soft play area. Area: approx. 1100 acres Houses proposed: approx. 3500 Start on site: due early 2006 Ravenscraig : Phase 1 Housing - Dec 2006 Ravenscraig: Progress - Summer 2005 The Court of Session has agreed on the decision to give town centre status to Ravenscraig be upheld, allowing the regeneration of the former steel plant site. The Ravenscraig vision has been delayed for more than a year as a challenge from Standard Life Assurance Company and Land Securities Group went before the Court of Session. The unanimous verdict in favour of the Ravenscraig Regeneration plans comes nearly 13 years after the steel plant closure. The masterplan is coordinated by the Ravenscraig Partnership and includes housing, schools, shopping, leisure and community facilities. Wilson Bowden Developments can now progress the first phase of development
(north of site) which will include building over 600-800 houses and providing
the necessary water, power, and drainage required for the whole site.
A £20m Sports Scotland facility is also due to be built. |
