Kelvin Link Bridge
Bridge to link Glasgow University and Kelvingrove
Art Gallery and Museum.
The Kelvin Link Bridge has yet to be built, four years after it was
proposed.
John
McAslan, the Scottish born architect, designed the bridge for
Glasgow University.
Following selection in an open international competition in 1999,
John McAslan + Partners was commissioned the following year by the
University of Glasgow to develop the design of a new pedestrian route
across the River Kelvin in Glasgow.
Inspired by the innovative architecture and engineering for which
Glasgow is internationally acclaimed, the new Kelvin bridge was to
celebrate its context with the design of a delicate structure, floating
high above the river and coming to rest on axis with the entrances
of Glasgow University and Kelvingrove Art Galleries - Glasgow's great
cultural and educational institutions. Below, both riverbanks were
also to be united by a stepped footbridge in the form of an arc, gently
connecting to the bridge above.
