Fiona Hyslop confirmed the Scottish Government has allocated more than a million pounds from its 2011/12 budget for work on the Theatre Royal and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
Scottish Opera will receive £605,000 to progress plans to upgrade the Theatre Royal while the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) will receive £413,000 towards the redevelopment of its new home at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. 28 Feb 2011
Granted Royal status post-completion the Glasgow International Concert Hall replaced St Andrews Hall, Charing Cross: it burned down in 1962.
The Royal Concert Hall opened in time for Glasgow's European City of Culture Year in 1990.

Leslie Martin's father was an architect. Martin was born in Manchester and studied at Manchester University School of Architecture, qualifying in 1930 and remaining there as a teacher until 1934 when he became Head of Hull's School of Architecture.
