140-142 Balgrayhill Road was designed by Rennie Mackintosh for his cousin, James Hamilton.

Symmetrical two-storey double villa with massive canted and piended outer bays, main roof swept down between over 2 lower, close-spaced narrow bays. Red ashlar with polished dressings. Slate roofs with bracketed eaves.

The villa is set behind a low boundary wall with wrought-iron gates and railings.
