Although as a part of this process the house was extended, the increase in the building footprint is actually very modest. The Waddell House project was much more about re-inhabiting the existing stone walls of the building in different ways, facilitating new patterns of family living at a time approaching 150 years after the house was originally built. The centre of gravity of the dwelling is quite significantly shifted, new internal relationships are unlocked and the house now relates in an entirely different way to its garden. This contemporary Glasgow house was one of eight RIBA Award-winning buildings in Scotland in 2003. It also won a GIA Award.
