The design of the building aims to promote awareness of healthcare in the community, through a strong street presence and a high degree of openess. The street facade comprises of a zinc clad "box" above a fully glazed ground floor. ![]() Sandy Road Clinic photo from GHA The hardness and scale of the zinc, and the window pattern responds to the neighbouring stone tenement buildings. The zinc "box" interlocks with an oak clad "box", containing the treatment rooms, with oak louvres providing protection from solar gain to large, south facing windows. The building also houses a nursery, which opens onto its own south facing garden to the rear, shielded from the noise and pollution of the street."
