There are two phases to the project - phase one is a new build on
the site of the existing "all women" gym and provides 32
flats and 4 penthouse apartments and was submitted for planning at
the end of 2002.
Phase two is refurbishment of two grade B listed buildings into loft
style apartments and will follow on completion of the new build. Ground
floor and basement floors are retail / commercial units.

Street with a recommendation from Historic Scotland: "a powerful
and appealing piece of urban infill on a restricted site"

MITCHELL STREET; THE BURRELL COMPANY
The Burrell Company today received Full Planning Consents from Glasgow
City Council for their redevelopment at Mitchell St./ Union St in
the city centre. Designed by gordon murray +alan dunlop architects,
the development creates 72 flats and loft apartments on two sites
near the Lighthouse, Scotlands' centre for architecture and design.
The Mitchell Street development comprises a new building of eleven
storeys fronting Mitchell Street which Historic Scotland in their
report supporting the scheme describe as..."a powerful and appealing
piece of urban infill on a restricted site"
Adjacent to the new building sits a group of Listed buildings fronting
Union Street and Mitchell Street, one of which was the work of Alexander
"greek" Thomson, which will be refurbished and converted
to loft apartments arranged around a series of secluded courtyards.

This project is a collaboration between award winning developer The
Burrell Company, developer on Homes
for the Future, recently named EAA Client of the Year and Architects
gordon murray + alan dunlop, who received a Europa Nostra award for
their work on Glasgow Central
Station and the Scottish Design Grand Prix for the Radisson
SAS Hotel Glasgow.
Construction work on this exciting new £10m development will
commence in the autumn and the first properties should be released
for sale in summer 2004.
