Five star 250 bedroom hotel operated by Radisson SAS.

A curved copper wall continues the street line of Argyle Street, one of Glasgow's oldest thoroughfares, and provides a dramatic frontage to the hotel. Copper is one of the Glasgow "native" and historic building materials, used here as a foil to the six floors of hotel accommodation.  A naturally lit internal "street” containing the reception, function suite, cafe and bar spaces runs between the copper wall and hotel accommodation.  A special suite of twelve rooms cantilever over the street and extend through the copper wall to Argyle Street.  Previously neglected frontages on Robertson Street and Oswald Street are brought back to life with fine dining restaurants, bars and leisure uses.

Hotel bedrooms look out onto adjoining streets or into a private courtyard garden. The hotel bedrooms are much higher that you would normally expect in a new build hotel but you therefore get a real feeling of space and with floor to ceiling windows all the rooms are filled with light.

"It is all too rare to find such a sensibility at work in the field of commercial architecture......it stood head and shoulders above any commercial project in Ireland, on a par with outstanding public buildings"

3. Marks Hotel - former Bewleys Hotel

Bewleys Hotel Bath St, Glasgow
Glasgow Hotel: Bewleys images by Andrew Lee

Marks Hotel by gm+ad architects

Icon building which launched the Bewleys name in the UK.

104 bedrooms, reception, ground floor bar and restaurant.

Marks Hotel is not shy and retiring so it may come as a surprise that many think it doesn’t fit into the Glasgow context. Admittedly the neighbourhood is generally restrained and orderly in architectural terms with a fair amount of Georgian buildings. The building’s key features are the ranks of forward-leaning windows and the powerful oversailing roof.

Conversion and extension of the former headquarters of Tennent Caledonian Brewery at 110 Bath Street, Glasgow, was the first UK hotel project for Irish developers Spanli. The hotel achieved almost 100% occupancy since opening in June 2000.
