Helensburgh Drive House – Arts & Crafts Terraced Property

This project involved the re-modelling of an existing Arts & Crafts terraced property in Glasgow’s Jordanhill to include a new garden room and open plan dining / kitchen area.

Frameless glazing and an over-sailing white canopy create a light and elegant modernist internal space and a Kyoto inspired external terrace. A recessed blinds track inside the internal perimeter contributes further to the clean lines and seamlessness of the design.
Dark coloured zinc roofing and gutter details beautifully complete the external composition of the extension.

Internally, glazed sliding doors have been introduced, connecting the beautiful period drawing room to the new open plan area to the rear. The reproduction of period facings and architraves over these doors provides a faithful continuity between old and new.
New bespoke shelving in the dining area ties in with the lines of the glazing bars on the sliding doors and helps to provide a seamless transition between the two spaces.

The kitchen sits very neatly in an area of lowered ceiling. The monochromatic tones of the clean units are a muted contrast to the vivid colours in the Client’s modern art collection. The presence of a single 300mm circular column painted grey, confidently anchors the kitchen within the open plan arrangement.
