Architects have revealed the first images of the final £4.1m refurbishment plans for Govanhill Baths in Glasgow.

After 15 years of campaigning, the Govanhill Baths Community Trust has secured enough funding to reopen the Baths as a working swimming and wellbeing centre.
Govanhill Baths closed in 2001 despite a local campaign to save it. It reopened in 2013 as a community hub, run by Govanhill Baths Community Trust.
Architects Hall Black and Douglas, who were appointed alongside Alistair Coey Conservation Architects, will ensure that the historic building envelope is sympathetically restored to be wind and water-tight, including necessary stonework repairs and improvements to the thermal performance of the building, where possible.
A new reception will be formed within the existing ground floor foyer space that will lead directly into a community cafe with access to the garden, facing onto Calder Street.
The learner and ladies pools will be restored and refurbished.
Changing facilities, including family and accessible cubicles, will be added as well as a new Turkish suite featuring both a sauna and steam-room.
The existing first floor slipper baths will be re-developed to create a community gym and activity space, with a number of historic cubicles retained and restored to accommodate private bathing and changing.
Main funding for the renovation is coming from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Big Lottery, Historic and Environment Scotland and Glasgow City Council.

Renewal design: NORD
Results from a survey by The Govanhill Baths Community Trust, a charity set up to restore the B-listed Edwardian building, into the impact of the pool’s closure in 2001 on local people from ethnic minority groups.
The £10,000 study found many, rather than travel to alternative venues, had ceased to take any form of exercise.
Plans by NORD for the centre include reopening all three swimming pools, building a gym, sauna suite, cricket nets and cafe. If funding can be raised, the trust plans to include a small cinema and theatre, community space and music rehearsal rooms with a planned opening date in 2011.
