Studio KAP

A new social club for Rutherglen Football Club to replace their existing club which lies in the route of the M74 motorway extension. The immediate environs of the building give rise to significant issues of durability with regard to security, vandalism and atmospheric pollution which we were keen to address by the use of high quality, durable materials.

The conceptual intention for this building is therefore a very tough but modeled and textured volume. The chosen facing brick type is a stock brick, dimensionally slightly irregular with a richly varied texture and colour. The mortar is a light cream emphasising the brick module and its roughness but the pointing almost flush so that the mass of the whole dominates. Openings in the wall, particularly the main entrance, are carefully modeled in brick to enhance the general feel of solidity and depth.

Following the compulsory purchase of their existing facilities to make way for the M74 motorway extension, studioKAP were appointed to design new changing facilities, a toilet block and stand for Rutherglen Football Club.

The facilities were designed to complement the new social club, with a carefully detailed brick envelope providing an attractive yet durable finish.
