The announcement came at the Scottish Offshore Wind and Supply Chain Conference in Aberdeen, at which the First Minister was delivering a keynote speech.
In conjunction with its decision to develop its offshore wind technology at the Energy Park in Fife, SHI has signed a multimillion pound deal with East Kilbride-based Clyde Blowers’ owned company, David Brown Gear Systems (David Brown), to supply gearbox systems for its next generation offshore wind turbine.
Samsung’s announcement follows investments by other companies including Taqa, Avaloq, FMC Technologies, Aker, Ineos, PetroChina, Dell, Gamesa, BNY Mellon, State Street, Amazon, Hewlett-Packard and Mitsubishi Powers Systems. 31 Jan

Working Drawing - The Hand Generated Image Masterclass
17 Mar 2012
“One can learn everything there is to know about an architect by studying their hand drawings, the degree of rigour and research that they bring to their projects, their attitudes and their sensitivities. It is no overstatement to suggest that hand drawing represents the stain of the true architect’s soul on paper.” Alan Dunlop
This full day masterclass is linked to Alan Dunlop’s Working Drawing exhibition.

Glasgow College
Construction of Glasgow's 'super-college' is expected to begin in 2013 after a decision to use the Scottish Government's non-profit distributing (NPD) procurement model. The project to improve the college estate will see a series of buildings erected on Cathedral Street and on Clydeside. The NPD model will hand the design, build, finance and maintenance of the estate to a selected private sector organisation in the form of a special purpose company with the College, charged with repaying capital costs over a 25 year period through a unitary charge once the buildings are in use. 24 Jan

Trump Clubhouse Approval
Donald Trump Golf Course Clubhouse, Aberdeenshire - by architects Acanthus df - wins planning approval by 8 votes to 2.
Councillor Debra Storr described the design as totally inappropriate for the site, a “Victorian pastiche...laughable...It should have blended into the land rather than sitting there looking like a Victorian lunatic asylum. There was an opportunity here to produce a spectacular design. We could have had a fantastic, modern, new clubhouse. I pity the architect who has been forced into such a design by a client I don’t think has taste.”
Meanhwile Donald Trump has issued an ultimatum to the Scottish Government by apparently halting work on his golf resort until he gets an undertaking that a planned offshore windfarm will not proceed, according to today's Scotsman. The proposals were described by the Trump Organisation as an "ugly industrial park". 18 Jan

Glasgow 'Clone Town'
Glasgow city centre will thrive only if it offers more than “samey” UK chainstores found in every High Street according to Sandy Greaves, the independent retailer who still runs the family sports shop that carries his name. He warned that the city centre risks “morphing into a version of Silverburn without the roof but with parking meters”, reports the Evening Times. The number of people who visit Glasgow city centre is continuing to decline. In the second quarter of 2011 it was down 2.2%. aside from issues such as parking and retail quality, better quality architecture would surely help. 3 Jan
