AIA Tour
e-architect gave the AIA UK (chapter of The American Institute of Architects) a tour of Edinburgh and Glasgow over the weekend, with some architects providing specific tours of key buildings. It is interesting to hear what outsiders think of our cities, we always do a summary, here it is...for Edinburgh a long debate about the Parliament and once again the Museum of Scotland, specifically the large amount of architectural references, eg Corb, Kahn, Aaalto. In Glasgow, concern at the severe staining at the back of Rick Mather's Homes for the Future block (probably the most commented aspect over the years) and amazement at the Radisson, this builidng created the biggest buzz in the group. 20 Sep

Norwegian Tourist Routes : Model for Scotland
Architecture and Design along 18 National Tourist Routes: a Tourism and Environmental Model for Scotland
One-Day Conference 5 Oct The Hub, Castlehill, Edinburgh

"In recent years a series of small but extremely high quality projects have appeared along tourist routes in Norway with the aim of providing functional objects – lookout points, picnic areas, services and rest areas – that enhance the overall visitor or tourist experience. They punctuate the journey through the landscape with memorable stopping places and display to the traveller the range and diversity of architecture and design in Norway today. Many of these facilities has been designed by young architects with the overall project organised and financed by an innovative collaboration between the National Tourist Routes Project, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and Norsk Form, the Norwegian centre for architecture and design". 5 Sep
