Glasgow Council Land Sell Off Shelved
Glasgow City Council suspends proposed sale of 56 sites due to the current
economic climate & property market conditions. Part of £100m
plan to manage surplus property in its £1.8bn portfolio. GCC had
hoped to sell the freeholds of empty sites, including schools, offices
and the Tontine building, which it estimated could net it more than £100m,
into a partnership with a developer. Advertised in an OJEU notice these
sites cost approx. £1m per year.

Scottish Architecture in Venice
"Leaving aside the almost pathological fear that the London-based
British Council and its London-based advisers have of architects outside
the capital - they regard them as beneath contempt, worse, a potential
international embarrassment....The Scots, however organised by
the rejuvenated Lighthouse architecture and design centre have
gone for impact....Call me partial, but as a Londoner, Id say Scotlands
gamble paid off handsomely".
