City Slums : 'Govanhill hits rock bottom'
Glasgow Council demand rogue landlords be jailed if they flout new laws aimed at tackling the city's slums. Communities Minister Stewart Maxwell visited Govanhill in the South Side and saw overcrowded and cockroach-infested flats. But failure of a private landlord to comply with registration requirements at no stage involves ultimate sanction of prison, making enforcement difficult. Funding for emergency council action has been mooted with money clawed back once landlords have been located. Large migrant communities are being exploited by owners letting out neglected properties.

This site fully supports this firm government action. Meanwhile Europe's largest onshore windfarm - the 152-turbine 548MW Clyde windfarm - has been approved by the Scottish Government.
