Carbon Trust Low Carbon Building Award 2008 went to East Lothian Council
for the new Windygoul Primary School, Tranent by their Projects Design
team. Jim Mather, Minister of Enterprise, Energy & Tourism presented
the award. Windygoul School uses natural ventilation, highly-insulated
envelope, sedum roof & solar panels
HSE Spot Checks
10 out of 11 Aberdeen construction sites visited by HSE were shut
after bad & dangerous working practices
witnessed. HSE now to do random checks in Dundee, Glasgow, Edinburgh
+ other Scottish areas. Ten construction workers from Scotland died
in 2007 - deaths rose by 61% across the UK
Bonfire of the Quangos
Scottish Government to cut number of quangos in Scotland by around
a quarter. The Building Standards Advisory Committee is due to be
abolished following legislation. Historic Scotland & RCAHMS are
