There is a step change in quality of new photos on the website due to
purchase of a Panasonic FX-01 Lumix 28/14m camera with Leica lense, thanks
to advice from architect Al Cook. All pages on the website have also been
reformatted over the last 3 months to a central 500pixel wide table format
to work with wide screen monitors. Due to the birth of e-architect.co.uk
- to take the expanding information received over the years, and to allow
the resource to grow - thousands of links have been added or revised.
To give an idea of the size of e-architect there are 18,000 links on the
site compared to 12,000 & 19,000 on the Glasgow & Edinburgh sites
respectively. The e-architect site will bring a new audience to Scottish
architecture which I'm sure will be broadly welcomed. Comments on these
changes welcome, also any broken links not picked up by my software and
manual checks. Adrian Welch 160906

Glasgow Tours

With on average 2-3 architecture tours per week this month we again hope
to post feedback as in previous years. So far the strongest feelings seem
to be despair at the lack of integration of projects along the Clyde,
a lack of landscape concept and the lack of upfront infrastructure, I've
got to say this matched views expressed in my article on current development
along the Clyde. Glasgow Harbour came out pretty well, the strip of landscape
there is simple and enjoyable; the unfocused spaces around the SECC and
Science Centre fared less well and were strongly criticised. Views welcomed

A major new study has revealed that well-designed Scottish buildings can
attract
investment, create jobs, and improve staff performance. The study, commissioned
by the Scottish Executive, reviewed over 100 research reports compiled
over the past decade by world-leading academics and professional architectural
institutions from the UK, Europe, Canada and New Zealand. The main findings
highlighted the economic and health benefits associated with well designed
buildings. Significant social and environmental benefits were also identified.
The study was conducted by leading research consultants, Morris Hargreaves
McIntyre. Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport Patricia Ferguson welcomed

Scottish Exec sets Green Standards
Micro Renewables: New housing and other developments should generate
at least 10% of their energy on site from renewable sources, according
to new Scottish Executive standards. This follows on from London standards
set by Ken Livingstone.
Scotland is the first UK country to consider such a standard. The draft
Planning Policy on Renewable Energy proposes local authorities designate
areas suitable for wind farm applications and those that are not; greater
account is taken of issues like natural heritage and cumulative impacts
of wind farms on communities and local authorities support a diverse range
of renewable energy technologies including encouraging the development
of growing and new technologies.
The target is to generate 40% of Scotland's electricity from renewable
sources by 2020 and reduce harmful carbon emissions
