Penilee : housing regeneration boost
Councillor Steven Purcell, Leader of Glasgow City Council officially launches
a £26m regeneration project on a brownfield site in Penilee, in
south west Glasgow, 30 Aug.
Led by Glasgow City Council in partnership with Glasgow Housing Association
(GHA) and Bellway Homes, the site which comprised tenement blocks and
a former secondary school is being totally upgraded during the five year
redevelopment programme.
Once completed the 10.4 acre site will have 220 private houses, 30 homes
for rent, new shops and the upgrading of existing leisure facilities including
a new grass football pitch and changing rooms.
Councillor Purcell will be joined on the site of the new socially rented
homes by
Michael Lennon, chief executive of Glasgow Housing Association, and Norman
Yardley, the technical director of Bellway Homes. They will be introduced
to
Sharon McKenna, one of the locals and a GHA tenant, who have been allocated
one of the new homes for rent on the development. Also at the event will
be Adrian Cavanagh, one of people who bought a private house under a priority
purchase scheme operated on the scheme.

Festival DellArchitettura Parma
Gareth Hoskins Architects are one of only three practices worldwide
to be asked to display various projects for this distinguished Italian
architecture festival.
1925 Sep
The Festival started in 1987 and has grown to become a major Italian event,
attracting thousands from all over Europe. This year, the Festival focuses
on practice promotion and communication of architecture. Exhibitions will
show architectural projects from start to finish, in particular how they
were created and how various problems were overcome. Other events including
many conferences about planning, landscape and history will be held throughout
Parma during the week of the Festival.
Gareth Hoskins Architects work will be shown exclusively in the Galeria
Imagina, within the Oltretorrente district of Parma. The story of this
award winning practice can be seen from start up in 1998 to the present
day, now a practice of over 35 members of staff. Various models, plans
and filmed interviews will be on display. The wide range of projects on
show will include prestigious projects such as the
Culloden
Battlefield Memorial Centre at Inverness, the critically acclaimed
masterplan for the Royal
Museum, Edinburgh and the Architecture Gallery at the
V
& A London.

A lovely little exhibition (it would have to be, it's at the RIAS) using
great photography of striking buildings simply set out on large black
boards, with models located central to the gallery: John Pelan was the
curator and has pulled together an exhibition that effectively communicates
Scottish
Architecture to the Festival crowd; not only that, his speech at the
Private View - and Mary Wrenn's welcome - was to the point and moving:
the best exhibition since Festival 2001!
