Planning objection
“Plans to give everyone in Scotland the right to appeal against building projects have been condemned as a ‘meddler’s charter’ that will damage the nation’s economy. At present, anyone can object to a construction proposal in the early stages but only developers have the legal right to challenge the decision of a council. Ministers are consulting on a new law that will allow any person to appeal any planning decision - from a house extension to a new motorway - even if they are not directly affected. “

European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage Europa Nostra Awards 2002

Gordon Murray and Alan Dunlop Architects and Arup Scotland announce that the Central Station regeneration project in Glasgow has won a prestigious Europa Nostra Award.

"Awarded for the research and exemplary conservation of an important 19th century train station, including important protection measures to the roof, executed with sensitivity and meticulous attention to detail".

Murray Thomson, Project Director for gm+ad said "this is a great honour for the practice and for Glasgow. We have a reputation as a practice for challenging new work, this heritage award is the most significant in Europe and consolidates also our reputation for handling conservation work of the utmost importance"

The Diploma will be given to Mr Walter Macharg, the Financial Director of Network Rail Major Stations and Mr Murray Thomson at the European Cultural Heritage Awards Ceremony at the Palais Egmont in Brussels on May 9th, in the presence of HRH Prince Lorenz of Belgium.

“Glasgow is set to become the top eating destination in Britain after London thanks to two new ventures from Habitat furniture chain founder Sir Terence Conran. The two venues, Ztain and Zinc Bar & Grill, will open at the end of June in the city's Princes Square as part of a new £1.5 million investment. Design entrepreneur Sir Terence includes the restaurants as part of his global firm.”
