Present-day architectural debate and production in Switzerland is dominated by a tendency to indulge regressive traditional imagery. Hidden within a deeply rooted culture of consensus and in unquestioning accord with the demands of the market, conventionalist values are established in order to resist the equalizing power and the uncertainty brought by globalization. Thus current architecture epitomizes a morally motivated suspicion toward anything experimental or radical. In opposition, Rolf Jenni, Tom Weiss and Jan Kinsbergen share the conviction, that architecture is itself the frame within which alternative forms of life and visions for the society are revealed and debated. They push the boundaries of convention because they believe that it has always been radical disciplinary thinking that advances architectural production. Their critique is not limited to Switzerland. It is an analysis of a general culture of relativism that regards the individual creative endeavour as a reoccurring spectacle, rather than a means to progress.

“One can learn everything there is to know about an architect by studying their hand drawings, the degree of rigour and research that they bring to their projects, their attitudes and their sensitivities. Trump Clubhouse Approval Donald Trump Golf Course Clubhouse, Aberdeenshire - by architects Acanthus df - wins planning approval by 8 votes to 2.
Councillor Debra Storr described the design as totally inappropriate for the site, a “Victorian pastiche...laughable...It should have blended into the land rather than sitting there looking like a Victorian lunatic asylum. There was an opportunity here to produce a spectacular design. We could have had a fantastic, modern, new clubhouse. I pity the architect who has been forced into such a design by a client I don’t think has taste.”

The number of people who visit Glasgow city centre is continuing to decline. In the second quarter of 2011 it was down 2.2%. aside from issues such as parking and retail quality, better quality architecture would surely help. 3 Jan

Biomass Plants News
Plans to supplement Britain's electricity needs by burning large quantities of wood are inefficient and put rural jobs at risk, will tell UK ministers.
Scottish Energy Minister Fergus Ewing is urging the UK Government to join the Scottish Government in removing subsidies from large-scale biomass electricity generation. He is to meet UK Energy Minister Charles Hendry and host a meeting with bioenergy stakeholders. He believes Britain would be reliant on potentially unstable and unsecured foreign timber imports. Glasgow Architecture Tours
In the last year we have shown a number of separate groups of international architects around Glasgow. Tours are focused on the city centre with occasional requests for Hill House, House for an Art Lover and Burrell Museum extensions. The most favourable comments focus on Glasgow School of Art, but also to a lesser extent on the courtyard of the Italian Centre and on the Radisson Hotel. Of most concern has always been the staining at Homes for the Future.
We've been running architecture walking tours in Glasgow and Edinburgh for 10 years, but e-architect now organise Architecture Tours in other European cities: London, Barcelona, Berlin, Paris and Copenhagen.
Please contact us on 01620 825 722 if you are interested in our city tours or if you have clients/visitors who wish to take our Glasgow tour. Glasgow Architecture Tours
